Houston Non-Profit Celebrates 14 Years with Scholarship Giveaways, Empowerment Seminars, Kids Adventure Zone, Local Artists Competition and Celebrity Guest Golden Brooks
Houston, Texas – May 31, 2017 – Texas Black Expo, Inc. (TBE), producers of the largest African American tradeshow and festival in the south, will celebrate 14 years with its annual Summer Celebration at the George R. Brown Convention Center. The 2-day Expo will be held on Saturday, June 10th and Sunday, June 11th.
This year’s Expo will feature more programs and resources to empower and give back to local businesses, artists and youth. All events are free to the public and made possible through the help of sponsors like Wells Fargo, Enterprise, KPRC Channel 2, Texas Southern University (TSU) and Forward Times Publishing.
“Our community partners have really come together to give back in a big way,” says founder and President Jerome Love. “This year we’re able to offer scholarship giveaways, cash prizes to local stylists and barbers, a recording contract for one lucky indie artist as well as personal finance and business seminars.”
The lineup will include a College Fair and Workshop, which offers students a chance to win up to $1500 in scholarships. The workshop is sponsored by Texas Southern University with over a dozen participating colleges and universities.
TBE’s Battle for the Deal Music Showcase will also take place during the Expo and is sponsored by Budlight, The Box 97.9 FM and Penalty Entertainment. This indie artist competition will showcase local talent before top music industry executives and influencers. The grand prize winner will get a music recording deal and the opportunity to work with a hitmaker producer.
Other events happening during Summer Celebration are Let’s Talk About Credit – a personal finance workshop presented by Wells Fargo. Nightlight Pediatric will sponsor a Children’s Adventure Zone with diaper derby, bounce house, face painting, games and more. Our signature event, Diva Dialogue, will feature celebrity guest Golden Brooks, from the hit show Girlfriends, and is produced by MPAC (Mack Performing Arts Collective).
